A New Beginning Filled with Hope April 30, 2019 by Azadeh Akbari Thanks to your support and donations, another group of marginalized young women begin the year with hope. With the start of a new term and end of the Nowruz holidays, earlier in April, our staff at the OMID center in Tehran began the intake procedures for a new group of young women at OMID. The intake procedures include a number of assessments and tests to help best determine an overview of physical health and educational needs of these young women. The tests begin with our standard medical intake procedures for a thorough overall general health review. This term these medical examinations were carried out by Dr. Iran Nejad, one of our volunteer doctors and OMID’s medical team. Next, as per our zero-tolerance policy towards the use of narcotics, drug screening tests were carried out as per standard procedure during this term’s intake. Following the medical tests, the respective tutors of each department (e.g., Computer, English Language, etc.) carried out pre-enrollment assessments. This is usually done during each intake session to better understand the students’ prior knowledge, skills and capabilities for enrollment in the appropriate classes. It’s most certainly a very busy time at the OMID center and we are grateful to our committed staff for their hard work. We wish the newly enrolled young women at OMID all the best in this crucial chapter of their lives.
