The event is a global day of giving with the ultimate goal of building a more just and generous world. What We Are Doing Safety & ShelterTrauma-Informed SupportLegal SupportEducationHow You Can Help We urgently need more resources to support marginalized refugee women in Greece and provide them with the tools of building a better life for themselves.Donate from USADonate from CanadaDonate from UKHow Your Donation Will Be Spent We urgently need more resources to expand our services. The funds we raise on #GivingTuesday will go towards supporting us to make this possible. $95 for rent and utilities for one woman for one month$70 for subsistence for one woman for one month$30 for educational programs for one woman for one monthMultiply the impact of your donation through gift matching You or your friends can make donations go even further on Giving Tuesday by making a donation through the Gift Matching program of employers. Bank of America Merryl Lynch, Cisco, Deutsche Bank, Genentech, Goldman Sachs, Google, and the World Bank Group are just a few of the firms that have approved OMID for gift matching. One of the best opportunities is the World Bank Group’s Community Connections Campaign which this year double match donations of their employees and retirees (i.e. a $100 donation turns into $300). The group includes The World Bank, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and The International Finance Corporation (IFC), International Development Association (IDA), International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), and The International Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). Please make use of gift matching if your employer has such a program and encourage your friends to do the same. Volunteer We are always looking for volunteers across the world who are clinical psychologists, English language instructors, event organizers, fundraisers, graphic designers, group facilitators, lawyers, media professionals, psychotherapists, social workers, translators, and web designers. If you are interested in helping OMID by sharing your expertise and sparing your time. For more information visit our current volunteer vacancies here. Success so far With your support, we are now providing shelter to 33 Farsi speaking female refugees in Greece, enabling them to find empowerment in their quest to build a new life for themselves in Europe. They benefit from a range of services including a person-centered and trauma-informed support in housing and shelter, legal, medical, psychosocial therapeutic services, and education. With a growing expert-led International team, we continue to recruit the best talent in developing our holistic program in Greece. VIRTUAL THERAPY CLINIC We are currently working with 11 therapists, 1 clinical psychologist, and 1 General surgeon who helps with writing prescriptions, if and when needed. We are working with 33 clients. Complex PTSD, Bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression are some of the conditions we are currently dealing with as most of our clients have had complex trauma. LEGAL The majority of the women in our care are victims of different forms of domestic and sexual violence and abuse, which forms the basis of their asylum applications. The applications of 20 of the refugees in OMID’s care have already been approved, and they have been granted refugee status. The remaining refugees in our care are in various phases of the application process, with most waiting for their interviews. One of them is awaiting the outcome of her recent interview, and one has received a rejection and our lawyers are looking into the possibility of lodging an appeal.
