Module 1: Computer Essentials This module sets out essential concepts & skills relating to the use of devices, file creation & management, networks, & data security. On completion of this module the student is able to: - Understand key concepts relating to ICT, computers, devices, & software. - Start up & shut down a computer. - Work effectively on the computer desktop using icons, windows. - Adjust the main operating system settings & use built-in help features. - Create a simple document & print an output. - Know about the main concepts of file management & be able to efficiently organize files & folders. - Understand key storage concepts & use utility software to compress & extract large files. - Understand network concepts & connection options & be able to connect to a network. - Understand the importance of protecting data & devices from malware, & the importance of backing up data. Module 2: Online Essentials This module sets out essential concepts & skills relating to web browsing, effective information search, online communication & e-mail. On completion of this module the student will be able to: - Understand web browsing & online security concepts. - Use the web browser & manage browser settings, bookmarks, & web outputs. - Search effectively for online information & critically evaluate web content. - Understand key copyright & data protection issues. - Understand concepts of online communities, communications, & e-mail. - Send, receive e-mails & manage e-mail settings. - Organize & search e-mails & use calendars. Module 3: Word Processing This module allows the student to demonstrate the ability to use a word processing application to accomplish everyday tasks associated with creating, formatting, & finishing small-sized word processing documents, such as letters & other everyday documents. On completion of this module the student will be able to: - Work with documents & save them in different file formats. - Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, to enhance productivity. - Create & edit small-sized word processing documents that will be ready to share & distribute. - Apply different formats to documents to enhance them before distribution; recognize good practice in choosing the appropriate formatting options. - Insert tables, images, & drawn objects into documents. - Prepare documents for mail merge operations. - Adjust document page settings. Module 4: Spreadsheets This module allows the student to understand the concept of spreadsheets & to demonstrate an ability to use a spreadsheet to produce accurate work outputs. On completion of this module the student will be able to: - Work with spreadsheets & save them in different file formats. - Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, within the application to enhance productivity. - Enter data into cells; use good practice in creating lists. - Select, sort & copy, move & delete data. - Edit rows & columns in a worksheet. - Copy, move, delete, & appropriately rename worksheets. - Create mathematical & logical formulas using standard spreadsheet functions; use good practice in formula creation; recognise error values in formulas. - Format numbers & text content in a spreadsheet. - Choose, create, & format charts to communicate information meaningfully. - Adjust spreadsheet page settings. Module 5: Online Collaboration This module sets out concepts & skills relating to the setup & use of online collaborative tools, such as storage, productivity applications, calendars, social media, web meetings, learning environments, & mobile technology. On completion of this module the student will be able to: - Understand the key concepts relating to online collaboration & cloud computing. - Set up accounts to prepare for online collaboration. - Use online storage & web-based productivity applications to collaborate. - Use online & mobile calendars to manage & plan activities. - Collaborate & interact using social networks, blogs, & wikis. - Schedule & host online meetings & use online learning environments. - Understand key mobile technology concepts & use features such as e-mail, applications, & synchronization. Module 6: Cyber Safety This module provides students with the skills & knowledge required to operate safely with computers & a range of mobile devices & to be aware of online threats. Candidates will recognize the need to safeguard personal information on computers & mobile devices & will recognize the threats posed by Internet criminals & scams. On completion of this module the student will be able to: - Understand the threats posed by viruses & will know the importance of using anti-virus software & firewalls. - Know about back-up procedures & good password practices as well as knowing how to filter email for spam & the importance of scanning email attachments before opening them. - Be aware of the information contained in smart devices & how it is shared online. - Know how to set appropriate security features for smart devices to guard against security threats & prevent unauthorized access to the device & the data it contains. - Recognize the risks in everyday use of the Internet & know how to protect themselves when shopping online. - Be aware of the implications of putting personal information on social networking sites & be aware of privacy issues. - Understand the threats posed by viruses & will know the importance of using anti-virus software & firewalls. Know about back-up procedures & good password practices as well as knowing how to filter email for spam & the importance of scanning email attachments before opening them.
